Pineapple - Coconut Smoothie

I've had pineapple on my mind lately (probably the warmer weather) and after my failed attempt of making a smoothie with frozen pineapples, I headed to the market to pick up some fresh pineapple spears. My second attempt was much more successful and completely satisfying!
Since pineapple is not normally one of my go-to fruits, I was curious to see what the health benefits were. Turns out, there's a bunch! Pineapple has as much Vitamin C as orange juice and contain bromelain which is good for reducing mucus (ideal for individuals with allergies!). Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme meaning it breaks down protein making pineapple a good digestive aid as well as an effective anti-inflammatory. Pineapple is also high in manganese ( helps with stong bones ::insert flex::), fat-free, high in fiber and vitamin A.

Heres how I made it:

  • Scoop of banana protein
  • 2 spears of pineapple
  • 1/2 cup of coconut water
  • 1 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 1 tsp of shredded unsweetened coconut
  • Dash of Truvia (for a sweeter taste)
  • 8 Ice Cubes
(if you add some rum extract, you might even be able to turn this into a pina colada smoothie!)

So, make my smoothie and drink up! You'll be feeding your body with the nutrients it needs!
